AAC activity terms, explained
What these AAC activity terms mean.
AAC usage patterns, communication board activity, vocabulary tracking, and board heatmaps are different ways to review activity recorded by the app. Parent Insights reports only the activity it has received; it does not measure ability, intent, or progress.
AAC usage patterns
Recorded board visits, speech-button selections, and spoken-message totals describe activity captured by the app during the selected period.
Communication board activity
Activity over time can be filtered by child, board, language, and date, but it includes only activity Another Voice recorded and received.
Vocabulary use patterns
First-time, previously used, and different speech buttons describe recorded selections. They do not prove that a word is mastered or unnecessary.
Private activity summaries
Summary counts and repeated-message patterns stay in a private adult view. Repeated-message examples can include message words, adult modeling is shown separately when known, and the app explains when activity may be missing.
Board and supporter context
Understand where recorded activity happened.
A useful review connects a number to the board, language, board version, Vocabulary Level, and person using the board at the time.
Separate supporter modeling
When the app knows an adult was modeling AAC, those selections are kept separate from the child's activity.
Read the board in context
A board heatmap can distinguish used buttons, available buttons without recorded use, and buttons unavailable at the active Vocabulary Level.

Privacy and data quality
The boundary and the gaps should be easy to see.
Parent Insights is a private area for parents and trusted adults. An authorized adult enables collection separately for each child, can stop future collection at any time, and can erase that child's existing Insights history. Stopping collection keeps existing summaries until the adult separately erases them.
Message examples stay in the adult view
Parent Insights can show the wording of repeated multi-word messages to authorized adults. A therapist needs separate permission from the family to see message words. Text entered into symbol search is not included. Communication History and symbol search remain separate features.
Clearly labeled example data
Guests, people without an account or child, and adults viewing a child with no recorded data see clearly labeled example data, never results presented as belonging to a real child. Coverage also explains missing or delayed activity.
Filters stay explicit
Date, child, board, language, board version, and last-updated context remain visible so adults know what the result represents.
Responsible review
Combine the pattern with real communication context.
Parent Insights supports adult judgment. It reports recorded app activity; it does not rank or score ability, prove progress, recommend what to do, or change a board automatically.
Begin with one question
Ask something specific about access, availability, modeling, a routine, or a board path before opening a broad chart.
Check what the data cannot show
Consider communication outside the app, device access, partner behavior, missing activity, and the child's own experience.
Make the smallest useful change
If observations show a board barrier, review a clear draft, preserve familiar positions, and let a parent or trusted adult decide what to apply.
